Dudley, Mass makes a move to buy land where Muslims want to build a cemetery

(BOSTON) MAY 6 – THE GOVERNMENT OF A SMALL RURAL TOWN IN MASSACHUSETTS IS STEPPING INTO THE MIDDLE OF A CONTROVERSY BETWEEN RESIDENTS AND TWO NEARBY MUSLIM CONGREGATIONS APPLYING TO BUILD A CEMETERY THERE.

RESIDENTS SAY THEY FEAR THE IMPACT ON THEIR HIGH WATER TABLE OF MUSLIM BURIAL PRACTICES THAT CAN, BUT NEED NOT ALWAYS INCLUDE IMMEDIACY, NO COFFIN AND NO EMBALMING. THE MUSLIMS SAY THE ISSUE IS RELIGIOUS FREEDOM.
